Only In America

You don’t like to be cheated?

The AP reports that a prison inmate wanted a milkshake bad enough that he paid $11.25 to the jail commissary to deliver one on a Friday.  But before he got a chance to savor the treat, he was transferred to the state prison to do his time for theft and forgery.  The inmate’s requests for a refund were denied, so he filed a claim against the county.

County officials have no idea when an inmate may be transferred so prisoners who order the special commissary items risk losing their money.

It appears that prisoners who steal by forgery and theft don’t like to be cheated out of their money either.  I can’t blame him I don’t like to be cheated.  Only in America would we worry about an inmates milk shake.  There are still prisons around the world that are served just enough food to keep the person from starving.

Only in America would the AP report a story about this social injustice.  They seldom report about the trouble these thiefs and forgers cause to everyday people.  Instead what I preceive to be the nature of their articles and stories is how the people who commit the crimes are victims of circumstances that caused them to act with malice.  Most people by the time they are 5 years old know that to steal is wrong.  Thiefs choose to take things.  The news should be reported about how they hurt the victims of their crime.  Somebody had to do without because of the thiefs greed.

We need NO MORE stories of how criminals appear to be cheated.  We need more stories stressing the hurt caused to victims and calling for tougher punishment for the criminals, maybe taking away their milk shakes and letting them drink water instead.
